Machines at night, staccato bleeps and crashes. Bass guitar, analog synths, samplers, percussion, and electronics. Primes formed in Vancouver, BC early 2004. Primes is currently Jack Duckworth (JJD) and Tanya Pea.
JJD was an active force behind the transcendently cacophonic A Luna Red, established post-punkers Radio Berlin. More recently he has been working with rock “decontructionists” Winning, and solo in sparse, slithering, noise/R&B sounds as JJ Wax. Jack Duckworth is also one half of The Wax Museum, designing for bands and labels worldwide. Music at age 11, with Composer Wizard on his Tandy Personal Computer in the 80s. Bass guitars, art punk and Gravity-style hardcore in the 90s. Century’s end, scalpel in hand, surgery performed, genres sewn together. In retrospect, there were miles of touring and a whole bunch of critically acclaimed records were released.
IDM pioneer in the early 90s, Tanya Pea’s dj sets in underground warehouse parties as Isis have been described as “absolutely stunning, a collection of melodic beats and caustic sonics…” Her massive 16mm film/35mm slide visual installations as Black+Blue Visuals, have been viewed by audiences of thousands across the country. She is also the other half of The Wax Museum. An electronic musician, she appears on the limited edition 111 Locked Grooves 12″ featuring the world’s finest techno producers, and has released her debut 12″ Handcut Ice Cubes as Tanya Pea, showcasing her mastery of ambient/IDM sound design and programming. The Dragon has met her match - the Horse, and the sound and image stacking saga continues.
Yes / live: projected visuals + sweat + movement + stacks of electronics expertly executed by these members who have over the years packed themselves in vans, buses, and planes for weeks at a time.
Primes have currently released one LP/CD under a previous line-up and will be releasing recordings of their current configuration in the Facades and Pink Forms album, slated for release in 2007 on Postfact Records. Track listing and label details for these releases to be announced soon.
