Alexandra Dipple, Hove, UK
Using UK Newspapers, Alexandra will construct a single line of dashes and hyphens pasted directly onto the wall. Throughout the festival she plans on excising dashes and hyphens from newspapers bought locally, creating a site and time specific work that will map the appearance of this information in real
time. Patterns will emerge and the piece will ebb and flow in relation to the punctuation available.
Using repetition with an obsessive focus Alexandra transforms obscurely sourced graphic symbols into fascinating topographies. The work poses questions about
space and distance. The minute proportion lends itself to diverse readings. It appears to be both an observation from space or a view through a microscope simultaneously. She observes the rules set out for herself but also allows for
intuitive or emotional input that gives the work a folky edge that belies its minimal appearance and enables the viewer to empathise with the making process.
